Yesterday morning I woke up at 9:00am, earlier than usual, to the familiar morning sounds of the birds and the sunlight streaming in through the windows. The day was slightly different, though. I collected the morning papers and flipped through with 1 part anticipation, 9 parts trepidation, and there on the Straits Times page 7 of prime news, tucked away at the very bottom of the page, I found what I was looking for. Actually the news was already out on monday, but not in print, but seeing in print in the papers sort of made cold realisation sink in and hit home.
One headline. 4 sentences. Print size 2.5 inch by 3 inch.
Such a small thing.
Such a big thing.
My last days will be spent filling up forms for scholarship applications, making final explorations into uni courses, and otherwise keeping myself occupied. After friday.....who knows?
There is a stillness in the air, a quietness unfathomable, uncomprehending...what it portends...and what follows...is anyone's guess.
